About the Role: Most companies discover their emissions months too late to do anything about them. Sustainability teams spend countless hours chasing data across factories, cloud systems, and suppliers, only to end up with incomplete reports they can’t act on. This leads to frustration, rising costs, and missed climate goals. CarbonCut solves this by giving companies real-time carbon visibility and automated reduction. CarbonCut is a UK-Based clean-tech start up and we’re looking for a Backend Developer with at least 2 years of experience in enterprise product development working closely with the CTO who is the founding team member of YC 22 alumni company. Key Responsibilities: • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs. • Work on system architecture, database design, and application performance optimization. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Frontend, Product, DevOps) to define and deliver product features. • Ensure application security, data protection, and compliance with enterprise standards. • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices. • Conduct code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes. • Troubleshoot production issues and optimize system performance. Must-Haves: • Minimum 2 years of backend development experience in an enterprise product environment. • Strong proficiency in languages like Node.js, Java, Python, or Go. • Experience in building RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures. • Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB). • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure. • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and orchestration tools (Kubernetes). • Strong problem-solving skills and understanding of system design principles. Good-to-Have: • Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.). • Knowledge of caching systems like Redis or Memcached. • Exposure to distributed systems, load balancing, and scaling strategies. • Understanding of security best practices and authentication/authorization frameworks (OAuth, JWT). • Previous experience working in agile, product-based teams.
