Location: Kovilancheri, Chennai. Experience Required: 10–20 years (minimum 5 years in food/sweets manufacturing) Reporting To: Director ______________ Job Overview The General Manager will oversee the complete functioning of a sweets manufacturing factory, including production, operations, procurement/purchase, quality control, inventory management, and team leadership. The role requires strong experience in food production, process optimization, vendor management, cost control, and ensuring compliance with hygiene and safety standards. ______________ Key Responsibilities 1. Production Management • Plan, organize, and supervise daily production activities. • Ensure all sweets and confectionery items are produced according to standard recipes and quality specifications. • Monitor production schedules, manpower allocation, and machine utilization. • Implement process improvements to increase productivity and reduce wastage. • Ensure preventive maintenance of production machinery. 2. Operations Management • Ensure smooth day-to-day operations in the factory. • Maintain hygiene, safety, and FSSAI compliance across departments. • Coordinate with QC team to ensure products meet quality standards. • Manage stock levels of raw materials, packaging materials, and finished goods. • Implement SOPs and enforce discipline among staff. • Control operational costs while maintaining efficiency. 3. Purchase & Vendor Management • Identify, evaluate, and finalize vendors for raw materials (milk, ghee, sugar, dry fruits, packaging etc.). • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and procurement terms. • Ensure timely availability of raw materials through proper purchase planning. • Maintain vendor relationships and assess vendor performance. • Coordinate with accounts for purchase budgeting and payments. 4. Team Leadership & People Management • Lead production supervisors, store managers, quality team, and purchase staff. • Train and motivate staff to maintain productivity and discipline. • Conduct performance evaluations and manpower planning. 5. Quality & Compliance • Ensure adherence to FSSAI standards and internal quality parameters. • Oversee hygiene practices, GMP, and food safety protocols. • Address customer complaints by identifying root causes and improving processes. 6. Reporting & Documentation • Maintain production reports, wastage reports, inventory logs, and purchase records. • Provide daily/weekly MIS reports to management. • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control strategies. ______________ Required Skills & Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Technology / Engineering / Business Management (preferred). • Strong knowledge of sweets/confectionery manufacturing processes. • Experience in purchasing raw materials for sweets production. • Excellent leadership, planning, and communication skills. • Knowledge of FSSAI norms, quality control, and food safety practices. • Ability to handle large teams and fast-paced factory operations.
