Head – Road Logistics & Projects

Hindalco is seeking a high-impact logistics leader to head its Road Logistics & Projects portfolio. This leadership role will shape nationwide road movements across outbound (including exports), inbound, and inter-plant logistics, while also driving sustainability transformation through initiatives like Green Logistics, Electric Vehicles/LNG adoption, Scope 3 emissions tracking, and environmentally responsible mode-mix choices. This role demands strong cross-functional collaboration with Procurement, Manufacturing, and Sales. Key Responsibilities: 1) Outbound logistics planning (including exports) • Develop and execute outbound logistics plans across domestic and export markets. • Improve load planning, routing, dispatch cadence, and alignment with service commitments. • Align outbound plans with Sales, manufacturing schedules, and customer expectations. 2) Inbound & inter-plant logistics planning (coal, alumina, caustic, etc.) • Lead planning for inbound and inter-plant movements of critical raw materials. • Define volume flows, turnaround expectations, and coordination cycles with plant operations. • Stress test plans for supply variability, infrastructure constraints, and peak-load scenarios. 3) Sustainability, Green Logistics & critical waste transportation • Build systems to track and report Scope III carbon emissions across logistics movements. • Drive Green Logistics initiatives, including projects such as Electric Vehicles and LNG-based green logistics adoption. • Lead focus on evacuation of critical waste from plants, including Red Mud and Fly Ash. • Critically examine mode-mix to adopt more environment-friendly options for operations. 4) Process improvement / digitisation • Identify and drive standardisation, digitisation, and simplification across the logistics value chain. • Drive adoption across plants, partners, and internal teams. 5) Cost & performance management • Review lane-wise cost structures, utilisation metrics, and performance indicators. • Present dashboards, variance analyses, and improvement recommendations for leadership reviews. • Drive sustained cost optimisation while maintaining service performance. 6) Logistics infrastructure enhancement • Lead projects to improve logistics infrastructure (yards, weighbridges, parking, driver facilities). • Ensure safety, compliance, execution discipline, and alignment to long-term strategy. 7) Safety leadership (Zero Harm) • Establish safety priorities and compliance expectations across transportation activities. • Drive audits, corrective actions, monitor routines, and governance. • Build a strong Zero Harm safety culture across fleet operators, partners, and internal teams. 8) Vendor/contract governance & team development • Create structured frameworks for evaluating, selecting, contracting and governing transport partners. • Lead negotiation cycles, performance assessments, and transparent partner relationships. • Build internal capability through coaching, routines, role clarity, and cross-functional problem-solving. Candidate Profile / Specifications: • Education: Engineering and/or MBA (preferably in Supply Chain/Logistics/Operations). • Experience: ~18+ years post qualification (Supply Chain & Logistics). • Strong expertise across transportation operations, vendor & contract management, cost optimization, compliance & safety, digital logistics tools, stakeholder management, and execution across outbound/inbound/inter-plant networks.
