Title : Java Backend Developer Type : Contract (3-months, extensions likely) Location : Remote About Ovyo : Ovyo is a B2B services company providing flexible Engineering team & talent services to the streaming (video / media), satellite and comms industries. We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join our multidisciplinary, agile Core Platform Engineering team. You will play a key role in designing, building, and optimising a large-scale platform that delivers Video on Demand and Live Events to users worldwide. The platform is built on Java-based, event-driven microservices and RESTful APIs running on AWS, and the team are solving complex, high-scale engineering challenges every day. This role suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced, technically demanding environment and takes real ownership of the systems they build. Key Responsibilities • Design, build, maintain and optimise backend services and APIs • Develop and operate event-driven microservices running on AWS • Ensure platform reliability, scalability, performance and security • Collaborate closely with product, QA and DevOps in agile delivery teams • Create and maintain automated tests (unit & integration) • Take ownership of features and services from design through to production • Contribute to architectural decisions and engineering best practices Required Skills & Experience • Strong commercial experience with Java 11+ • Solid experience with relational databases (MySQL and / or PostgreSQL) • Strong understanding of software design principles & design patterns • Experience working with event-driven architectures • Experience building RESTful APIs (JAX-RS, Dropwizard, Spring Boot or similar) • Experience with automated testing (unit & integration) • Comfortable working in agile development teams Nice to Have • AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, Kinesis, DynamoDB) • Docker & containerised workloads • NoSQL database experience To apply for the role or for more information get in touch with the team at Ovyo at talent@ovyo.com
