New Product Development Manager
About the job
At Magick Home, our New Product Development (NPD) Manager plays a critical role in shaping innovative, high-quality furniture solutions. This role oversees the entire product lifecycle — from ideation to launch, with a strong focus on Design for Manufacturing (DFM), cost efficiency, and quality control. The objective is to ensure that every product balances aesthetics, functionality, manufacturability, and value. Through close collaboration with design, sourcing, and production teams, the NPD function ensures that ideas are transformed into scalable, market-ready products that meet our quality standards and customer expectations. Key Responsibilities: • Project Management: Lead the NPD process from concept development, prototyping, testing, and ultimately to market launch, ensuring all projects are on time and within budget. • Design and Engineering: Translate design concepts into manufacturing-ready engineering drawings and 3D models using CAD tools like SolidWorks or AutoCAD. Focus on DFM principles, modular design, and flat-pack optimization for shipping. • Material Expertise & Value Engineering: Apply knowledge of various materials (wood, metal, fabric, wicker, etc.) to conduct value engineering, reducing complexity and costs while maintaining product strength and aesthetics. • Quality & Compliance: Oversee prototype creation and validation testing (e.g., load bearing, UV resistance, corrosion) to ensure all products meet internal performance standards and relevant international standards (e.g., BIFMA, ASTM). • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with industrial design, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, marketing, and logistics teams to ensure seamless end-to-end execution. • Documentation: Maintain complete documentation including CAD drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and change control documents. Required Qualifications and Skills: • Education: A bachelor’s degree in mechanical/industrial engineering, Product Design, or Furniture Design is typically required. • Experience: 7–10 years of experience in furniture product engineering, NPD, or manufacturing, with proven exposure to DFM and modular design principles. • Technical Skills: Expertise in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), knowledge of furniture manufacturing processes (including metal fabrication, powder coating, upholstery), and experience with BOM creation and costing. • Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, project management, and coordination skills.
