Job Description Principle Data Scientist Reporting to: Director, Analytics & Technology Department: Analytics & Technology Location: Flexible/Remote Role Overview We are seeking a Principal Data Scientist to join and lead the Data Science capability of our growing Analytics & Technology Department. You will be leading the support of objective cricket performance decision making through advanced statistical modelling and data analysis. The successful candidate for this senior role will have a passion for cricket underpinned by an accomplished background in sports data & analytics and will be comfortable leading a distributed team of data scientists. You will be an excellent communicator with strong attention to detail, and expert abilities in capturing & understanding requirements then identifying and deploying the resources required to translate complex concepts into actionable insights. Job Description • Effectively lead distributed data science team in identifying and delivering projects from a technical perspective, defining creative solutions and upholding best practice. • Build and validate intelligent models using multiple data sources, that can simulate, predict and solve real-life situations and problems. • End-to-end deployment of machine learning models on cloud platforms. • Articulate solutions to non-technical users through UIs, tools and visualisations. • Identify and recommend new research opportunities, modeling approaches and development avenues to push the cutting edge of departmental capabilities. You're a great fit for us, if you have: • Strong technical understanding of data science, including statistical techniques, algorithms and machine learning. • Accomplished professional leadership experience in the field of data science within the sports domain – preferably with cricket knowledge. • A passion for cricket and desire to successfully mentor a growing data science team. • Comfortable in building complex functionality using Python and/or R and have a good knowledge of associated libraries, frameworks and tools. • Ability to test various algorithms and build complex models for specific problems. • Strong experience with building predictive and analytical data models using libraries such as Sklearn. • Experience in NLP techniques like processing text, named entity recognition, sentiment analysis, word embeddings, and similar. • Experience with data mining, data scraping and data augmentation. • Good understanding of SQL and databases, ability to optimise queries, design effective data schemas and manage complex database structures. • Comfortable with building and using REST APIs. • Adept at visualising data and communicate a narrative using tools like Matplotlib, Seaborn, Tableau and similar. • Experience with building custom UI for data models using JavaScript/React or similar for ease to non-technical users. • Adept at managing production of the solution, including end-to-end deployment on a cloud platform like GCP/AWS. • Strong academic background, with higher degree in Data Science/Statistical Modelling.
