About The role We are hiring a Backend Developer (SDE II) to build, improve, and maintain production backend systems in close collaboration with the CTO and core engineering team. This is a high-impact, growth-oriented role. You’ll work on real production systems that affect thousands of users, while learning how large-scale systems are designed, operated, and evolved. You will not be working in isolation - decisions are made collaboratively, with guidance and context from senior engineers. Responsibilities - Build and improve backend services used in production - Own backend features from development through deployment, with team support - Contribute to discussions around performance, scalability, and reliability - Optimize database queries and backend workflows - Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving overall engineering quality - Help debug and resolve production issues - Work closely with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams on execution Required Skill (Must Have) - Experience with Node.js and Express.js - Experience with TypeScript - Working knowledge of PostgreSQL - Proficiency with Git / GitHub - Experience building backend services or APIs - Familiarity with caching, async systems, and backend optimization concepts - Ability to reason about backend systems in production environments Good To Have (Bonus) - Experience with Redis or other caching systems - Experience working with WebSockets - Exposure to WebRTC - Familiarity with real-time or event-driven backend systems Technology & Learning Expectations While parts of our stack involve real-time systems, modern web frameworks, and cloud infrastructure, prior experience with every specific tool is not required. What matters most at this level: - Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and system patterns - Ability to understand unfamiliar codebases with guidance and documentation - Strong backend fundamentals that transfer across stacks - Curiosity and forward-thinking when building and improving systems.
