Role Description This is a remote, contractual role for a Senior Backend Developer. The primary responsibilities include designing, building, and maintaining scalable, secure backend systems using modern TypeScript-based frameworks. The developer will build and maintain APIs (with tRPC where applicable), work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, integrate AWS cloud services, and ensure smooth coordination with frontend and product teams. The role also involves optimizing backend performance, writing maintainable and testable code, troubleshooting production issues, improving system reliability, and participating in code reviews to maintain high engineering standards. Qualifications Required • 6+ years of professional backend development experience (preferably) • Strong knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals and distributed system concepts • Proven experience building backend systems using : • TypeScript • tRPC (or similar typesafe API frameworks) • PostgreSQL • AWS services (Lambda, S3, CloudFront, RDS, EC2, etc.) • Solid understanding of API architecture, microservices, and server-side application patterns • Experience with ORMs (Prisma, TypeORM, etc.) • Strong debugging skills, performance optimization, and code quality mindset • Experience working in a remote, async, collaborative environment Preferred • Experience with CI / CD pipelines and modern DevOps workflows • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and message queues (SNS / SQS, Kafka, etc.) • Exposure to Docker or containerized applications • Ability to design scalable database schemas and optimize SQL queries Portfolio Requirement Candidates must have at least 1–2 real projects in their portfolio that demonstrate hands-on experience with TypeScript, tRPC, PostgreSQL, and AWS. Links to GitHub, case studies, or deployed apps are highly preferred.
