Senior Backend Developer

About the job

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join a high-performance game development environment and play a critical role in building the server-side systems that power modern online games. You will design, develop, and scale secure, low-latency, and highly available backend services that support multiplayer gameplay, in-game economies, player data, and live game operations for large concurrent user bases. Key Responsibilities: • Design and develop scalable, high-performance backend architectures and APIs to support core game features such as authentication, player profiles, leaderboards, matchmaking, and in-game stores • Build and maintain real-time multiplayer systems, ensuring low latency, reliable synchronization, and stable networking • Architect and manage SQL and NoSQL databases for player data, game statistics, telemetry, and transactional systems • Optimize backend systems to handle millions of concurrent players, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks • Support LiveOps features, including live updates, events, and post-launch content using cloud-native, containerized, or serverless architectures • Implement security, anti-cheat, and fraud prevention mechanisms to protect player data and ensure fair gameplay • Develop analytics and telemetry pipelines to capture player behavior and game performance insights • Collaborate closely with game designers, frontend engineers, artists, and producers throughout the development lifecycle • Mentor junior backend developers, enforce coding standards, and promote backend best practices Required Skills: • Backend Programming Languages: Strong proficiency in one or more of C++, C#, Java, Python, or Go • Backend Frameworks: Experience with frameworks such as Spring Boot (Java), Django (Python), Express.js / Node.js • Databases: Hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB) • Cloud Platforms: Solid experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure • Networking: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, WebSockets, and real-time networking concepts • API Design: Expertise in building secure RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs • Scalable Systems: Experience designing microservices, distributed systems, and high-availability architectures • DevOps: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native deployments • Prior backend development experience in the gaming industry, specifically on online or multiplayer games Nice-to-Have / Bonus Skills: • Experience with gaming backend platforms such as PlayFab, Photon Server, or Nakama • Knowledge of game physics, real-time simulations, or multiplayer state synchronization • Prior experience working on live online games or large-scale consumer applications.
