Our frontend is the product. Lawyers spend ... hours inside documents, workflows, and review systems. The interface must support high information density, long-running AI workflows, and strict correctness guarantees. We are not building simple dashboards. We are building: • State-heavy workflow builders with branching logic • The “Legal IDE”: document viewers with diffing, annotations, and AI-assisted editing • Async-first interfaces where AI agents run for 10–30 seconds while streaming partial results • Power-user tools where speed and precision matter more than visual minimalism The frontend must remain fast, predictable, and maintainable as the product grows in complexity. The Mission You will help build the core user workspace of Jurisphere. This role is frontend-heavy but full-stack capable. You should be comfortable crossing the boundary between frontend and backend when necessary. You are not just implementing UI components. You are helping build frontend systems that support complex workflows used by lawyers every day. You will take partial ownership of the frontend codebase and help ensure it remains scalable, maintainable, and predictable as the team and product grow. Engineers here are expected to leave the codebase better than they found it. What You’ll Work On Complex Product Surfaces You will build and improve major parts of the product interface, including: • Workflow builders and task orchestration interfaces • Document viewers with diffing and annotations • Review and approval workflows • Data-heavy tables and inspection panels • Interfaces for AI-driven document processing These are interaction-heavy, state-heavy systems, not simple screens. Frontend Systems, Performance & Async State Much of the product deals with large documents, long-running AI workflows, and asynchronous system behavior. You will help ensure the UI remains predictable, responsive, and maintainable even as complexity grows. Typical problems include: • Rendering large documents with hundreds of annotations without UI lag • Preventing unnecessary re-renders and memory leaks • Handling asynchronous workflows where the UI updates incrementally as AI tasks complete • Avoiding race conditions when multiple async updates affect the same screen • Designing state models that remain understandable as workflows become more complex This often involves profiling, architectural improvements, and deeper understanding of browser behavior, not just surface-level optimizations. Full-Stack Collaboration Although this role is frontend-heavy, you should be comfortable working across the stack when necessary. You will occasionally: • Implement small backend features or APIs that unblock frontend work • Debug and improve API behavior when frontend workflows depend on it • Work on data models or endpoints that simplify complex UI logic • Add instrumentation or logging to diagnose product issues The goal is not to become a backend specialist, but to ensure frontend and backend evolve together without unnecessary friction. Strong frontend engineers understand that API design, data flow, and UI performance are deeply connected. Code Quality, Ownership & Maintainability You will help own the long-term health of the frontend codebase. This includes: • Designing components and abstractions that remain understandable as the product grows • Refactoring parts of the UI when complexity starts to accumulate • Maintaining clear boundaries between UI logic, data flow, and state management • Preventing fragile patterns or “temporary hacks” from becoming permanent You should care about: • Code that other engineers can easily read and extend • Architectural decisions that scale as the product surface grows • Maintaining predictable patterns across the codebase Over time, you will help ensure the frontend evolves as a well-structured system, not a collection of disconnected screens. Your Profile Must Have • 3–7 years building production applications • Strong experience with: • React • Modern frontend architecture and patterns • Comfortable working across the stack: • APIs • debugging backend behavior • performance analysis You are someone who: • Thinks about data flow and render cycles, not just layout • Cares about maintainable systems • Enjoys debugging difficult UI problems You are a software engineer who enjoys frontend problems, not just someone implementing designs. Big Plus If You Have • Experience with: • Next.js • Tailwind • Graph or canvas-based interfaces (React Flow, similar tools) • Rich text or document editors • Performance profiling with Chrome DevTools • Data-heavy SaaS products Experience with technologies like ProseMirror, CRDTs (Yjs), or state machines is a strong signal but not required. Not a Good Fit If • You see frontend primarily as design implementation • You prefer simple UI layers over complex systems • You avoid debugging performance or state management issues • You treat backend services as a black box This role is for engineers who enjoy solving difficult interaction and state problems.
