Senior Node.js Backend Developer

About the job

About the Role : We are looking for an experienced Senior Node.js Backend Developer to architect, build, and scale our healthcare workforce management platform. You'll work on complex backend systems that power care agencies and healthcare organisations across the UK and Ireland, handling everything from staff scheduling to compliance management for thousands of healthcare workers. Key Responsibilities : • Design and develop robust, scalable backend services using Node.js • Architect and optimise database schemas across MongoDB and MySQL (Aurora) • Build and maintain secure RESTful APIs for web and mobile applications • Work with Azure and AWS cloud infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance • Implement integrations with third-party systems (payment processors, Irish Revenue PRSI, compliance platforms) • Develop complex scheduling algorithms and real-time data synchronisation systems • Ensure GDPR compliance and security best practices for sensitive healthcare data • Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver features on time • Implement CI / CD pipelines and maintain deployment automation Requirements : • 5+ years of professional backend development experience • 3+ years of hands-on Node.js development in production environments • Strong expertise with Express.js or similar Node.js frameworks • Production experience with MongoDB and MySQL / PostgreSQL databases • Solid understanding of AWS and / or Azure cloud services (EC2, ECS, Lambda, VMs, Blob Storage) • Experience with Docker and containerised applications • Strong knowledge of RESTful API design and microservices architecture • Understanding of security best practices for sensitive data handling • Experience with Git workflows and CI / CD pipelines • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail • Experience in healthcare, fintech, or regulated industries preferred • Knowledge of Laravel / PHP is a plus • Familiarity with UK GDPR and data protection requirements is beneficial Why Join Us : • Work on meaningful technology that improves healthcare delivery across the UK and Ireland • Join during an exciting growth phase with significant technical challenges • Shape architectural decisions and technical strategy • Remote-first flexibility with a competitive salary • Professional development budget for courses and certifications • Transparent leadership culture that values honest communication • Modern cloud infrastructure with room for innovation • Opportunity to mentor and grow into technical leadership roles • 25 days holiday + bank holidays, pension scheme, and healthcare benefits
