Senior Principal Architect – AI/ML What success looks like in this role: About the Role The Senior Principal Technical Architect – Generative & Agentic AI is an enterprise-level technology authority within the Engineering Group, specifically aligned to the AI & Machine Learning Software Engineering function. This role owns the architecture, standards, and technical direction for Generative AI and agent-based systems, transforming AI/ML models into secure, scalable, production-grade solutions. The architect collaborates across engineering, platform, and product teams to drive responsible, high-impact AI adoption at scale. This is a hands-on position with the expectation of performing rapid proof of concepts to evaluate potential use of new technology or tooling. Principal Responsibilities • Act as enterprise design authority within the Engineering Group for Generative AI and Agentic AI solutions. • Define and govern end-to-end AI architecture, from data ingestion and embeddings to orchestration, inference, and observability. • Design and lead development of LLM-powered applications using RAG, vector databases, and multi-agent frameworks. • Architect agentic AI systems capable of reasoning, planning, tool usage, memory, and goal execution. • Convert business problems and hypotheses into PoCs, pilots, and enterprise platforms. • Evaluate, select, and standardize AI models, frameworks, orchestration tools, and platforms. • Define LLMOps / AgentOps practices including deployment, monitoring, evaluation, cost control, and lifecycle management. • Ensure solutions comply with security, privacy, compliance, and Responsible AI standards. • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and architectural guidance across AI engineering teams. • Act as technical escalation point for complex or high-risk AI initiatives. Critical Skills Required • Deep expertise in Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs). • Strong understanding of Agentic AI concepts (reasoning, planning, memory, multi-agent collaboration). • Hands-on or architectural experience with RAG architectures, embeddings, and vector databases. • Experience with agent orchestration frameworks (CrewAI, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, etc.). • Strong programming skills in Python; exposure to Golang is a plus. • Proficiency with Azure AI Services, including Azure OpenAI and related AI platforms. • Strong knowledge of prompt engineering, function calling, tool usage, and structured outputs. • Experience with cloud-native architectures, microservices, containers, and Kubernetes. • Familiarity with API-driven backend design and data pipelines. • Solid understanding of observability, security, and scalability for AI systems. You will be successful in this role if you have: Candidate Profile • 12+ years of experience in software engineering, AI/ML systems, or platform architecture, with strong focus on Generative AI. • Proven experience acting as Senior Principal / Enterprise Technical Architect within large Engineering organizations. • Demonstrated ability to define architecture standards and guide large engineering teams. • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across engineering leadership and executive teams. • Self-driven, collaborative, and comfortable working in fast-paced engineering environments. • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, or related field. • Cloud or AI certifications (Azure Developer, Azure AI Engineer, or equivalent) preferred.
